Ellie & Matt’s Werribee Mansion Wedding
As featured in British Vogue
Ellie and Matthew chose a classic black-tie palette for their summer Werribee Mansion wedding: a white dinner jacket for Matthew, a sleek gown and long veil for Ellie, and bridesmaids in deep chocolate brown. Against the mansion's sandstone and bluestone, the result felt clean, timeless and quietly glamorous.
The day
The ceremony was set on the lawn in rows of bentwood chairs, each holding a hand-lettered paddle fan with the couple's names, with clusters of white blooms and deep red flowers along the aisle.
After the vows came a toast with the bridesmaids beside the garden hedges, then portraits through the house and grounds. Dinner was served at long tables dressed in white beneath a clear-roofed marquee strung with fairy lights, set against old bluestone walls.
Photo spots at Werribee Mansion
The grand staircase. Its carved timber balustrade, red runner and arched window frame a bride beautifully. We photographed Ellie on the stairs, lifting her veil.
The upper landing. Looking down over the iron railing gives a wide, symmetrical view of the hall.
The sandstone loggia and arches. The colonnade gives deep shade and repeating arches, ideal for walking portraits and a quiet moment for the groom.
The tiled terrace. Patterned tiles and a stone balustrade, with tall trees behind.
Tips for couples marrying at Werribee Mansion
Leave time to move between the house, terrace and gardens; the spots are close but distinct. We recommend about ninety minutes for portraits, including family photos.
A tonal palette (black, white and one rich accent) sits well with the warm sandstone.
If you'd love portraits on the staircase, check timing for interior access with the venue when you plan your day.
