Wedding photography and film among the villas, olive groves and medieval hamlets of Tuscany.

Tuscany, told over days, not hours

We are La Este Film, a husband-and-wife photography and film studio led by Courtney and Hamish Lawrence, telling wedding stories with an editorial eye since 2013. A Tuscan wedding is rarely a single day. Guests arrive from across the world, long tables are set beneath string lights, and the celebration unfolds slowly, from a relaxed welcome dinner to vows in the hills and the golden evenings that follow. We capture the whole of it, so every evening is part of one story.

Villas and borghi of Tuscany

Villa Belvedere sits at Romignano Estate in Loro Ciuffenna, in the Valdarno between Florence and Arezzo, an exclusive villa for fourteen guests with a window over the Tuscan hills, its terraced garden and swimming pool looking out across the valley. It is the kind of place where a wedding party lives together for the week and the whole villa becomes the setting.

Further south, between Siena and Arezzo, Borgo Laticastelli is a small twelfth-century Tuscan village transformed into a country relais, keeping its centuries-old stone walls and adding an infinity pool over the clay hills of the Sienese countryside. Its name means “the castle where light comes from all sides”, and with its stone lanes, terraces and gardens, the whole village can become the setting for a wedding weekend.

Marilena & Joshua at Villa Belvedere

Marilena and Joshua travelled from Australia to celebrate their marriage at Villa Belvedere under the warm autumn sun, with plenty of Aperols in hand and a day that was nothing short of spectacular. The morning unfolded in the villa’s beautifully decorated corners, Marilena in her Leah Da Gloria gown and Joshua and the boys in Oscar Hunt. Their modern ceremony was led by a family friend, which made it feel personal from the first word, and afterwards they stepped away to share private vows. We captured it all in photo and film, from the big picture to the small, honest details, as the autumn light softened over the hills.

Kelly & Thomas: a wedding weekend at Borgo Laticastelli

Kelly and Thomas welcomed their friends and family to Borgo Laticastelli, one of their favourite places in the world, for three days in the Tuscan hills. The weekend began with a dinner party with no seating chart and no intense schedule, just Italian music, pizza and gelato, and guests meeting one another for the first time around long tables in the village lanes. Then, under the European sun, they exchanged bands amongst lush greenery and cobblestone paths, and golden light carried the evening into night with Aperols, prosciutto, burrata and fresh breads. Guests decorated the tables with hand-picked florals, there were live paintings and saxophone melodies, and plenty of good company. We photographed and filmed the whole weekend.

Planning your Tuscany wedding

Light and season

Autumn brings softer light and milder days than the height of summer. We plan portraits and outdoor moments for the morning and late afternoon, when the light settles gently over the hills.

Multi-day coverage

Our multi-day coverage includes welcome events, the wedding day and recovery days. Holding the whole weekend in one place, as Kelly and Thomas did at Borgo Laticastelli, lets each evening flow into the next, and a relaxed welcome dinner is often where the most honest moments happen, as your guests meet for the first time.

Room to breathe

Make space for private vows after the ceremony, and allow buffer time: travel between villas, towns and vineyards on country roads often takes longer than expected. Ask your venue about a wet-weather or shade option for the ceremony and dinner.

35mm film

Every standard package includes two rolls of 35mm film. Discover our 35mm film wedding photography.

We photograph weddings across Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Europe (Italy, Greece, Switzerland, France, Germany and Sweden), and anywhere in the world.
